Valencia is an unincorporated community in northwestern Los Angeles County, California, United States. The area, west of Interstate 5, is expanding with residential development and includes major commercial and industrial parks. It straddles State Route 126 and the Santa Clara River.
A major expansion of Valencia is under construction with new residential neighborhoods and commercial developments. The massive Great Park development (formerly Newhall Ranch and FivePoint-Valencia) was conceived by Newhall Land in the 1980s and broke ground in 2017. The new development is west of Six Flags Magic Mountain.
Newhall Ranch was farmed until the 1960s when Newhall Land developed a community named after the Valencia orange. The completion of Interstate 5 in 1967 improved access to the San Fernando Valley. The city of Santa Clarita incorporated in 1987, including most of Valencia east of Interstate 5. However, disputes arose over Newhall Ranch due to environmental and congestion concerns, leading to opposition from Santa Clarita's city council.
